Abstract

This essay for the Muzeum Susch’s in-house journal considers the idea of photography as a medium through a three-way structure: process/announcement; matter/technique; magic/knowledge. The context is the Muzeum’s commitment to the work of women artists from Central and Eastern Europe, and the case study focus looks at images by Emila Medková, Běla Kolářová, Eva Fuková and Alena Kotzmannová. These are discussed within a wider consideration of photography as a fundamentally ‘in-between’ category of work and knowledge.
